- Sending money by wire, gift card number, payment app or crypto to someone you haven't met: the FTC names all four.
- Anyone who can't meet or keeps cancelling, then asks for money, the FTC warns.
- Cashing money orders or forwarding money or parcels for a match, North Carolina warns.
If you suspect a scam, the FTC says to cut contact, talk to someone you trust and report it at ReportFraud.ftc.gov, telling the site or app where you met. The Illinois Attorney General's list is to save the messages, block the person, then tell the platform, your local police, the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) and the FTC.
How often should you get tested?
The CDC says everyone aged 13 to 64 should have an HIV test at least once. It adds that anyone with more than one partner since their last test should test at least yearly, and it lists other reasons too. Its GetTested tool finds fast, confidential testing at low or no cost, including self-collection kits.
Before sex with someone new, the CDC suggests talking about sexual and drug-use history and HIV status, and considering testing together. Used the right way every time, it says, condoms are highly effective against HIV, but none gives absolute protection.
