Tinder Hookups vs No Strings Dating: Which Suits You?

Can Tinder do casual sex? What its rules allow, what it does well and where we fit.

The short answer

Tinder can work for hookups if you sort out casual in chat, and No Strings Dating suits adults who want it stated up front. Tinder's rules stop public profiles saying you want sex, while on our site tags such as Ready Now and Local Only make casual plain. Tinder has safety tools like Face Check and Share My Date.

What each app does with a casual message

  1. Your profile. Tinder's goals menu, introduced in December 2022, has a short-term option (check the app for today's wording), but public profiles can't say you are looking for sex. With us, tags such as Short-term Fun put casual first.
  2. The first message. Sexual talk in a private Tinder chat is fine if everyone is comfortable. With us, sensitive images arrive blurred with a warning, and our guide to asking for no strings attached covers how to word the ask.
  3. The meet. Tinder's Share My Date (April 2024) sends chosen contacts a link with the place, time and your match's photo. With us you get safe-dating tips on the site, and our safer sex guide covers testing.

Where Tinder is the stronger choice

Tinder's press room says Face Check, a short video selfie, is required for new UK members from March 2026 and is being phased in across the US, California first. Optional ID Verification was on offer by 2024.

A mutual swipe means a chat usually starts with interest on both sides, and its rule against sexual content on public profiles suits an app where people want different things.

What the reports say, with dates

Ireland's data regulator
A draft decision dated 9 July 2026 proposes a fine of 8 million to 11 million euros on Tinder's Irish arm over data access, deletion, retention and transparency, Freevacy reported. Match Group says it will contest it, and the regulator's news page showed no final decision on 25 October 2026.
US Senate report
Outmatched, a report released on 13 October 2026 by Senator Maggie Hassan of the Joint Economic Committee, says nearly 1.5 million scammers matched with US users on Tinder and Hinge in the first nine months of 2025, The Record reported. Match Group says the report mischaracterises its work and that Face Check cut US scam interactions by 70%, a company figure.

Neither is a verdict on using Tinder.

What to check before you pay any app

  • Which features cost money, and whether you can message without paying.
  • Whether the plan renews by itself, and how you cancel.
  • How long the app keeps a selfie or ID you send it.
  • Where you report a problem, and whether a person answers.

Tinder and casual sex, answered

Is Tinder good for hookups?

It can work, but hookups are not all that Tinder is built for. Its FAQ says people join for something serious, casual or undecided, and public profiles cannot say you want sex, so that conversation happens in chat.

Can a Tinder profile say you want sex?

No. Tinder's community guidelines say public profiles may not carry sexual content or a line saying you are looking for sex. Sexual talk in a private chat is fine if everyone is comfortable, and paid arrangements are banned.

Is meeting a hookup from an app safe?

No app can promise that. Tinder's own advice is to meet in public, tell someone your plans, never send money, and use condoms and regular testing. Those habits apply on any dating site, ours included.

How is No Strings Dating different from Tinder?

No Strings Dating is built for adults who want casual sex, with interest tags such as Ready Now and Local Only. It runs in any browser, can sit on your home screen, and chatting comes with a paid subscription.
